Social Service Specialist 3 In-Training - Adoptions Social Service Specialist

Adoption is a lifelong process for everyone involved, with significant emotional and legal impacts. Adoption has many facets and touches people in different ways - depending on their role and perspective. This job focuses on placement of a child and establishes meaningful relationships with children and families to assist them in this difficult, significant emotional time.
**Some of what you'll do:**
* Provide an advanced level of specialized case management to a caseload of legally free children and finalize the adoption process
* Identify and place children in pre-adopt homes
* Conduct monthly health and safety visits for the children
* Assist families in applying for the Adoption Support Program
* Write post placement reports
* Prepare for and attend required court hearings
* Attend shared planning meetings and adoption planning reviews
* Provide support and assistance to adoptive families
* Identify and authorize services necessary to maintain children in the adoptive placement
* Plan, coordinate, and participate in activities to support legally free children and adoptive families
* Complete required background checks
* Work independently in devising your own work methods to provide an advanced level of specialized, culturally competent, and solution focused case management
* Meet all casework management directives required by law, policy, and other mandates
**We're looking for professionals who have successfully demonstrated:**
* Knowledge of DSHS/CA policies and procedures, including knowledge of federal and state statutes governing child welfare and adoption work
* Implement culturally-relevant, ADA-sensitive and individualized service plans
* Engaging children and families under difficult circumstances, to gather information to make accurate and precise decisions
* Ability to identify problems, develop and implement solutions
* Communicating information both orally and in writing so others will understand
* Ability to remain calm when being confronted and to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Successfully managing competing priorities
**Who should apply? **Professionals with one of the following:
Twelve months as a Social Service Specialist 1.
A Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or a related field, and one year of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 1 (a practicum will be substituted for the one year of paid social service experience).
A Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or a related field, and two years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 1.
Based on experience, this job may be filled as a Social Service Specialist 2 In-Training.
